Opening Up - A "Rain" fanficI love getting out of work early.
Earlier than expected, at least.  There was supposed to be a department meeting, but our department chair wasn't there, so everyone left early.
Normally, I drive Ryan home with me from school.  Today, however, because of the meeting, he had to take the bus.  I worried the first few times, but he's gotten comfortable with it.
I get back home at about 3:30.  On meeting days, I'm usually not home until 5:00, so Ryan should be surprised to see me.  I open the door, and announce "Hey, Ryan!  Guess who's -" when what I see makes me freeze mid-sentence.

Fanart for Rain, a webcomic by

A friend of mine recently came out as ftm trans and he has just started presenting as male and I'd like to think this comic helped me understand him a little better. I've been reading a lot of trans* friendly things in the past few weeks for that very reason, but in the process of reading this one, I got really attached to the characters, particularly Rain, Rudy and Maria. I can't imagine what it must be like to go through what they do, but all of them, particularly Rain, have been so brave throughout it. I also got really attached to Holly, but only because she's hilarious.

I really needed to practice colouring based on environment, so I found a background ([link]) and edited it to fit in with my art style , then drew the character! The colours are a bit wonky because I don't normally do exercises like this, but I tried my best.

...My goodness. This is awesome.

Seriously, I love the environment you build: how you have it raining, as she walks down a rustic alley, umbrella in hand... it's like she's in a magical slice of the real world. I love how it subtly features the "transgender colors", as well, and how she has a loose, watercolor-looking reflection on the ground. And... oh my gosh... it took me until now to notice her feathery, black wings! I love how they're the kind of thing you can easily miss, but those who see it (and have read the story) get it immediately.

Honestly, I dare say that this is the best Rain fanart I've seen yet. Jocelyn always adds the ones she's seen to her favorites, so she must not have seen this one yet. I'm going to try to draw her attention to it.

Thank you so much! I loved the parallels in the comic between Rain and Kaminari, and because they were so alike I thought the wings would be a nice touch, although if anyone who hasn't read the comic sees this, they might think it's a fantasy comic! To be honest, I hadn't really noticed the transgender colours were there until now, but they fit very well, so I was definitely lucky there. I'm really glad you liked it, and thank you for telling Jocelyn about this!
